The Carrickfin Boat Strand

I wrote this poem last year for all those who had to leave Ireland after the very abrupt ending of the Celtic Tiger .  Who knows if they or the salmon will return?

Two pillars stand like sentries,

Guarding a channel,

Where ghosts of the past roam,

On white horses stretching towards Gola,

Few fishermen set to sea now,

To catch Wild Atlantic Salmon,

With glistening skin and succulent pink flesh,

The fish are gone,

The men are gone,

To distant shores….
