In recent weeks, I have been returning home from my walks with purple stained fingers from eating blackberries. Did you know they that these free blessings are an abundant source of fibre, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, phytochemicals…?
Sometimes, I gather a small bucket of these deep purple treasures, inspired to cook. I have made blackberry muffins and several batches of blackberry and apple crumbles, making good use of this years fantastic apple harvest.
I had an impulse to make apple chutney this week, so I adapted a BBC recipe adding extra mustard seeds, cinnamon, ginger and star anise – one of my favourite spices.
The chutney is now stored away for homemade winter indulgences. I am saving a number of jars to include in Christmas food hampers for my loved ones. I made sure to mix a little LOVE into every jar!
