Dr Bach Flower Essences to the Rescue

IMG_0813

Dr Bach Rescue Remedy is sold in high street chemists and health stores worldwide, endorsed by many for reducing stress and anxiety, aiding sleep, exam nerves …

But, did you know that its creator – Dr Edward Bach died back in 1936?

He was a doctor ahead of his time, who intuited that the energy from flowers could be harnessed, to heal the emotions and in one of his remedies – to heal the the mind. In turn, he felt that the body would heal itself.

He created 38 different flower essences and one combination essence known as Rescue Remedy; it contains five different essences:

  • Cherry Plum,
  • Clematis,
  • Impatiens,
  • Rock Rose,
  • Star of Bethlehem.

The remaining single essences were subdivided, for healing of seven different types of issues:

  • Fear,
  • Uncertainty,
  • Insufficient interest in present circumstances,
  • Loneliness,
  • Over sensitivity to influences and ideas,
  • Despondency and despair,
  • Over care for the welfare of others.

I have been using various combinations of these essences for more than thirty years now, and they have helped me heal from the premature death of my parents, a miscarriage, divorce, moving home …

  1. I came by to thank you for the follow and found a kindred soul. Not just that, but one that lives in Ireland where one of my dearest friends is (Dublin) and my very next door neighbors are from there too! The Irish seem to be everywhere… anyway, I’m now following you too so look forward to getting to read more of what you have to offer.

    1. Thank YOU. I really enjoyed your colonoscopy tail as I have had two, also two proctograms (don’t ask) and five or maybe it was six bowel biopsies. I decided I had had enough and do you know what happened next. The bleeding stopped! I tried to place a comment on your post but somehow couldn’t find the button. So I am very glad to meet another kindred spirit.

      1. Oh my goodness , you have really been through the mill!! I’ll have to look into the comment thing. You should be able to scroll right to the bottom and there is a comment box. My theme doesn’t have a comment button as such. Not that I know of anyway !

  2. Self-healing takes a lot of courage and research. Interesting that Dr. Bach focused on the healing of emotional and other inner states of being to heal the physical manifestations in the body. Look forward to deeper learning in this area. ❤

      1. He certainly was in modern times, but I think the ancients harvested plants for their medicinal value also. It became a lost art in our “pill” society. 🙂

      1. Hi Brigid – just a thought. Perhaps you could subscribe to my blog and then you would be able to comment…just a thought and I’d love to have you on board. 🙂

  3. Thanks for reminding us of this. We discovered them back in the early 90s when we could get them only at an alternative/ health / whole / farm shop near us on the Powys/Shropshire border. It was a time when the remedies met a real need for them. Nowadays our lives are intrinsically healthier and -despite the busyness- calmer. But your post has spurred us to look up Mount Vernon and wish we could visit there. Thanks again, Birgid!

  4. Brigid, my friend, whose name is also Debbie, just purchased some of these from England. She got Honeysuckle and Rose I think. She was telling me about Back remedies and I said I know someone who probably knows all about this. I remembered your posts on flower essences and so I thought I’d start at the beginning of your posts. This is fantastic. Do they work right away or do they have to build up in your system for a while? How would you take them? You probably answer these questions in your other posts, I off to read the next one. xo

    1. Sometimes they work immediately Deb. Other times it is a subtle transformation. I take a drop diluted in a large bottle of mineral water then drink a glass morning and evening. http://www.bachcentre.com would suggest diluting in a little eye dropper bottle with a drop of alcohol. I find the more you dilute the more powerful the effects. A bit like homeopathy where the most powerful dose is the most dilute. 😊

      1. Like a 16 ounce bottle of mineral water or larger or smaller? Interesting. Yes I briefly went on their sight last night, will have to check it out more. Thanks Brigid xo

      2. I use half litre water bottle and put one drop of each remedy into it then I drink that in several doses over a day. If you want to follow the bach centre they would do it a little differently but I just do it this way as it is easier and the intention behind the remedies is really the mist important issue. The healing often begins when you send off for your flower essences and you have not yet taken a drop! 😍
