Inviting New Beginnings with Feng Shui

IMG_3733If you were inspired to clear out clutter after my post LETTING GO OF CLUTTER, you may find this post helpful for the next stage of your healing journey.

The Mouth of Chi

Your front door is the entrance for positive energy or CHI into your home.

Step outside and imagine you are seeing it for the first time.

  • What impression does it give ?
  • Does it need a new coat of paint?
  • Is your letter box opening freely?
  • Does your outside lighting work?
  • Are there any welcoming flowers or plants outside?

Step inside.

  • Can the door open freely?
  • Can you walk through the entrance area with ease?

Anything that impedes the journey through your home, will block the free flow of CHI.

In turn, this may create blockages in key areas of your life:

  • Health and well being
  • Career
  • Personal Relationships
  • Creativity
  • Respect from others
  • Abundance…

Individual Rooms

Take a journey round your home.

  • Can the doors open and close freely?
  • Can you walk around the room with ease?

You may now feel compelled to rearrange some furniture!

Positive Changes

Create a plan for any necessary changes and improvements, breaking it down into small achievable goals…

You can continue the healing process through:

  • Opening windows to allow fresh air and new CHI to circulate
  • Washing windows inside and out to enable you to see more clearly
  • Filling vases with fresh flowers to welcome positive energy
  • Displaying happy photographs and artwork to invite more JOY
  • Adding soft towels, comfortable bedding, relaxing cushions… to increase feelings of ABUNDANCE

When you enhance the CHI or energy in your environment, you will begin to notice positive changes in your LIFE.

Healing Focus and Intention

However, the most important concept to remember is to choose a focus or intention for your New Beginnings.

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”

                                                                                                 Socrates

You could focus on:

  • Opening up new career opportunities
  • Improving personal relationships
  • Creating a better flow of wealth and abundance
  • Finding more inner peace…

The Energy of a Temple

Many years ago, I owned and managed a healing centre and shop in Stirling, Scotland. One of the nicest complements I ever received came from two lovely Indian ladies who said:

“The energy in your shop is like a temple.”

I felt incredibly blessed.

Wishing you all many blessings and positive New Beginnings…

I open windows in the entire house even in winter …all this after i read a feng shui book..

    Great post great reminder

  2. I’m a big believer in clearing out clutter, shifting the energy and raising vibrations. Today I planted a new tree out in the front yard. Now just have to keep watering it as there are high temperatures predicted. Great post.

  3. I try to keep my home as clutter free as possible. I also try to surround myself with a positive energy within my home. Our homes ought to be a place to recharge our batteries while nurturing all parts of ourselves.😊

  4. You’re right Brigid! This is a great time of year to refresh!! I never thought of starting at the front door–thanks! (and I DO need to wash all those windows). But I did spend over a week giving our hallway and study a fresh coat of paint. Hope all your projects are coming along, friend. xox

  5. Thank you for sharing your very wise thoughts! What a beautiful compliment to receive; as I move about the apartment and remove clutter (one of my cherished practices!), my wish is to create space that reminds one of a temple! You’ve inspired me to once again take another good look at my space…

  6. Now that my husband is retired, we really need to start decluttering. He has lots of duplicate paper of his business in case he need them for another business project. Hopefully we could shred those soon. I also have a side business and 30 years worth of document. I’m trying to save all the new doc in pdf files, and shred most of the paper. As far as clothing, shoes, and other things, I did many waves of giving them to the charity, but have more to do. It’s an ongoing project for us for awhile. I like simplicity. In fact, my daily usage is minimal. I hope I could get to a point when we keep only what we need. Imagine living in Hong Kong in a 500 square feet flat, there’s no storage for junks!!!!

  7. Hi Brigid! Oh I love this post. It’s so full of love, and the simplicity and ease of being able to move freely in our space really speaks to me.

I also LOVE that Socrates quote. Funny, I was just working on my handouts for individual coaching, and part of them includes focusing on a quality that we want more of in our lives. So it’s a way to focus on what we want as we’re letting go of what we don’t. Your post inspired me a lot, Brigid.

THANK YOU! Love to you, Brigid. ❤ Debbie

      • You too, Brigid! 💜
My spiritual teacher John-Roger says intention is the direction we want to travel. I love that, simple, clear, and doable. My intentions have a lot to do with love and joy. 😊. Lots of love, Brigid. Thanks again for a great post. Blessings, Debbie

  9. Hello Brigid,
I love this post so much. You give us real and meaningful reasons why we should implement such clearings. It’s only when I have some new visitors that I stand back and attempt to see my home as ‘if for the first time’ but not in that way. It’s given voice to my thoughts that I couldn’t articulate…
Thank you for a such an informative post dear Brigid 💐💕

    • Thank you Di. I find I see my home with new eyes when I return from a holiday! Today I am tidying up the corner of my garden that relates to personal relationships. A friend is building me a new compost bin from a shed that has a wonky door. I await positive change… xx

      • You’re very welcome… And that sounds like a good time, Brigid. I can agree with you there, after being in a different setting for a while.
And I hadn’t realised there was so much energy invested in clutter and how it relates to areas of our life. Such an awakening. You have me thinking now…. thank you, that’s the brilliant point of sharing isn’t it?
Wishing you well with allowing your positive change into your corner of the garden… Enjoy your day my friend 🌝💕

      • Thank you for asking, Brigid. That’s very kind. I’m really good, thank you. Getting my head around the ins and outs of reblogs. My next post is 2 days early because I learnt it’s an instant ‘publish’! Oh well, I know now…
Enjoying our winter here as it’s been mild so far. And… looked around the house today to see what I can begin to declutter…. thank you for a gentle reminder to just start.
        Bye again, my friend 🙋🏻💕💕

      • Hello Nichol,
I’m touched you stopped by. Thank you so much.
Yes, it’s been a very hectic time recently. We only today arrived back from Melbourne for our son’s wedding on Saturday.
And another son and his wife and our new little granddaughter are arriving on Friday for a month and a half. Lots happening in our family, but all good news.
I see you are jumping into your dream…that’s awesome Nichol, and I wish you all the best. I think I will sign up for some inspiring emails.
Thank you again and enjoy your new adventure 🙋🏻💞💞

  10. I am all about comfort. I love open spaces and inviting soft seating. Curtains are a must around every window to soften the harsh rectangles that beg for comfort. I love windows that open to the inside so they are easily cleaned. I love fresh flowers and live plants that portray life and creativity in and around the home.
Thank you for this post. It has made me look more into why I create the spaces I do around my home.

  11. I have some work to do. 😉 I really enjoyed this post Brigid. So eye-opening. I’ve been striving for a more minimalist home for awhile now. Most of my rooms feel very open and free but the entry way is not like that. We never use our front door so it becomes a place to leave things. Not good! Sharing this today in Posts of Note. 🙂

      • Filled my red Honda Civic sport in 1986 to leave England to work for the first time. I had mixed feelings. There was a romance, Health Visitor job in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland.
Didn’t need any furniture as living in nurses home next to health centre awaiting housing by housing executive as priority as classed as a worker.
Job was advertised in Nursing Times & thought it was meant to be. Could visit relatives 30 miles away in Irish Republic at weekends, see my boyfriend & work in alternative location.
As I left home remember mum’s r.i.p words ‘God send you safe’ & he did.
Romance ended and after Enniskillen bomb of 1987 (visiting relatives on that Sunday) I returned home the following year.

  12. Hi Brigid! Wonderful post! I enjoy a clutter free home but ever since we moved from a larger home to a smaller one it seems harder to keep it clutter free. There’s one bedroom that’s so cluttered that I get physically ill when I’m in there too long. There’s a lot of things in there that my husband wants to hang on to but he doesn’t make the effort to organize it. It’s been a problem.😟

  13. Time to wash those windows inside AND OUTSIDE again, before the real COLD sets in… I try to keep our rooms welcoming and as free of clutter as possible and like to change pillows and table coverings each season. Thanks for the tips! Enjoyed your post, Brigid.<3 xo

  15. Commenting on this one again…(I saw my old comment from last year!)
A lot has changed. We sized down and moved out of a very over-crowded home and into a very open one. Before we moved we made it a point to get rid of anything we didn’t use or need. It was incredibly freeing. I unpacked and set up this new home in one day aside from a few boxes. That was amazing to me. I love the freedom that less stuff brings to my heart and soul. What a difference a year makes. ❤

  16. Oh no! I’m in panic mode. Ha ha. I live in an old log cabin, Brigid, and the front door is nailed shut. It’s not a door at all, really, although there’s a path leading to it. We enter the home through the crowded laundry room. ACK! I need to think this through a bit, I guess. A great distraction and opportunity to be creative, right?

  17. For the 28 years I’ve lived in this house, the latches on both doors into my lounge have “caught”. Not enough to stop the doors opening but enough to make that little judder as the latch comes out of the receiver. For some reason, this morning, as I went into the lounge, I remembered this blog post. And I realised that these little door issues WERE irritating me. As it’s too stormy for gardening I got out a hammer and chisel and, in ten minutes had reset the receivers slightly deeper into the frames and the doors open without that little bit of resistance. And I felt surprisingly happy about that. So I came back here and read your post again. And I did a bit of furniture moving. And I felt surprisingly more happy about that. Who knows where this will end now! Thanks.
