Watching the Daisies Virtual Walking Festival

I feel blessed to live in Donegal, an area of outstanding natural beauty on The Wild Atlantic Way. http://www.wildatlanticway.com

“Watching the Daisies Virtual Walking Festival” will run 10 to 20 April, to inspire others to put on their walking boots, and enjoy the mighty outdoors.

The Wild Atlantic Way – Rocks and Rock Pools

I longed for walk along Carrickfin Beach, despite it being a rather windy day. Thankfully, I had the wind behind me as I set out on the outward journey…

The wind challenged the seabirds,

The beach lay deserted…

I was propelled to the far end, and much needed rocky shelter.

Rocks have always fascinated me, and I love to check out the seaweed clinging to a myriad of ridges…

Rock pools also merit further investigation…

Thousands of snails and mussels have set up homes…

The sea has created beautiful patterns on the sand.

I captured a video of the waves pounding against the mighty rocks.

Finally, I reflected on whether my face really wanted a sand exfoliation on the return journey, and decided to walk back through the shelter of the dunes.

I took one last glimpse of the roaring waves, before I turned for home.

I felt revitalised by the rocks, rock pools, the brisk walk and the fresh sea air.

  1. Now that’s what I call an invigorating walk! Thank you for taking us along on your windy, discovery walk. Love the textures of the rocks and the sand and the subtle colors of the mussels and snails. You are a digital artist! Every time I read one of your posts I think about moving to Donegal. Is there room for me and my family of three?

Beautiful photos and just a bit of a memory lane trip that brought the smell of salt air right into my home office as I visited various blogs on my computer. I lived close to the beach when my parents resided just south of Florida’s Cape Canaveral during my fathers time working with the space program.

The sounds from the video were unfamiliar, however, since Florida beaches are primarily flat, and only when Hurricanes are threatening do the winds bluster fiercely. Even the waves that can be surfed make a completely different sound.

“sand exfoliation” – lol. LOVED that! Thanks for sharing.

  4. Brigid… “Sand exfoliation” … That was a “smile big & wide” moment for me, loved this post. It also reminded me of back home along the Bay of Fundy coast… I loved exploring the rocks too.

  5. Like you I am fascinated by rocks too. What a lovely place to be able to go and walk. Isn’t it something those formations in the sand designed by the sea!! I could smell the salt air as I watched the sea crash into the rocks, thanks for sharing Brigid!! xo

  7. Such untamed beauty along the coast in your part of the world. Yes, walking is so good for us especially in nature. My Irish ‘Aunty’ Rose from Tralee managed her 95 years and family living in London by going for a good walk ‘ to clear my head’!

  8. A Virtual Walking Festival is such a cool idea! Not a big fan of the wind though, or being ‘propelled’ when walking (even though it does make things a little easier, until you have to walk against the wind!) The sand facial exfoliation made me chuckle. Loved reading about your walking adventure, Brigid, and fab photos to bring it to life!
