The exact cause of fibromyalgia remains unknown, but several triggers have been noted among sufferers, including physical or psychological trauma. Viral infections are another possible cause.
This dis-ease may be secondary to other auto-immune disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing sponylitis, lupus… It is more prevalent among women.
Symptoms vary but can include:
- widespread pain,
- sensitivity to pain,
- sensitivity to food, bright lights, moulds…
- stiffness,
- fatigue,
- cognitive problems,
- headaches,
- anxiety,
- depression…
